I’m using a Raphael 8404 Size 1 brush for this. It keeps your paints workable through this process. I also highly recommend using a wet palette for this. I cover this in the video, but here’s the paints I’m using. The commission earned helps maintain this site. However, the colors used and basic principle remain the same. If you’re looking to paint fire that’s physically on your miniature, then this isn’t exactly what you’re after. If you want to put some cool flames on your miniatures armor, then this is what you’re after. The idea with this is to freehand paint some flames. It’s kind of a controlled chaos as you’ll see. I realize this might sound difficult, quickly painting, and it will admittedly take some practice, but it’s not hard – honestly. By the time I took a picture, made sure it looked good, the paint would be dry. It’s that fast paced painting that makes this nearly impossible to really capture in my traditional method of taking pictures of each step. I’m not intentionally glazing layers out or doing anything fancy, just working fast. What I do is lay down very thin coats of paint in rapid succession to let it all blend itself out. There's really no parallel for these effects in other apps, it works wonderfully with the pencil, so it really could be a far more powerful tool than it is at the moment. This flame technique makes use of blending but not in any hard way. I'd be willing to pay more money for more features. Really, for a $1.99 app this is actually pretty epic, and a great way to experience the fun in a compact package. I had trouble importing my own work that was about the same size as the canvas, but maybe that can be resolved in the future. Some of the interface is a little hard to understand, but I also love its cool looking design, so it's ok. That way, I can export my flamework into Procreate or another app. Personally I wish for a number of features like layers, or at least the ability to save as PNG with a transparent background. It looks like a lot of new features were added in per request, so it's nice to see the app evolve. They have a life of their own and don't paint the same stroke twice! The particle brushes here aren't like anything you find in Photoshop or Procreate. It's amazing both conceptually and in execution. You really have to experience the joy of watching the flames dance and grow as you draw with them. Now I finally have that option and I love it.
